Easy Bible Bread
Daniel Valles
7/21/4
In your Bible reading, you may have come across the
story where the widow makes the prophet Elijah a cake of bread with
only flour and oil. No yeast, baking soda, baking powder,
leavening, spices, etc. So how did she make bread?
If all you have is flour and oil, and need just a
basic bread, here is an easy recipe.
Tortilla, Chapatti, Fajita (Bible Bread)
Ingredients: Flour & Oil
Mix whatever amount flour you want with a bit of
water until if forms a pliable dough.
Place the dough on a clean, floured surface and knead it for
several minutes (10 min). Knead it by pushing down on it and
rolling it over onto itself over and over again.
Rub a bit of oil into the dough and let it sit for about half an
hour. (Cover it with a clean towel or cloth to keep insects
away)
For the pieces of bread, pull off a clump of dough and roll it out
fairly thin (think Tortilla thin).
Place bread on hot skillet, a pan over your camp fire, hot coals,
etc.
It will bubble up a bit, but cook on both sides for several
minutes.
Very good to use as wraps for other foods. Place rice, beans,
vegetables, meat, etc. inside, roll up, and enjoy!
Very simple. If you want a simple bread that is
rises and is more biscuit like, but you want something simple that can
be stored for a while, here is a quick tip.
Campfire Biscuit Bread
Ingredients: Generic, packaged Biscuit Mix & Water
Combine the mix and water until you have a dough,
flatten out to about pancake thickness, place on tin foil, place
right near the edge of a hot fire, or on the edge of coals.
If the bottom cooks too fast it may burn. (This can also be
made on a BBQ grill) It will rise and brown in about 20-30
minutes.
These two recipes are easy and quick. If you lose
power or it is hard to get to the store to buy even basic bread, both
of these can be made on a grill, campfire, etc. Even with just
the simplest of food supplies (flour, oil, and water), your family can
have bread.
