"I Am Well"
Daniel Valles

READ Psalm 128

We all have problems and troubles.  We all go through shadows and valleys which are difficult at best.  Whether it be the loss of a loved one, sickness, loss of a job, or other difficulty, we all experience sorrow.   If, as Christians, we strive to serve God and walk in His ways (vs.1), undoubtedly Satan will try to discourage us.

In this chapter we see a unique promise.  God said that those who fear Him and walk in His ways will be happy, and "it shall be well with thee."   It always makes me smile when I think that the Apostles could sing in jail after having been beaten and whipped.  Happiness is not found in circumstances.  If your happiness is based on your circumstances, then your emotional state will resemble a roller-coaster.  Happiness is found in abiding in God!  The peace that passeth understanding will be there during the hard times if we follow God!

The second promise was that "it shall be well with thee."  One of the many cliques that I cringe at is the greeting, "How are you doing today?"  Most of the time it is more a greeting than an inquiry.  You are left to think of some witty repartee while wishing they really were inquiring.  However, a greeting that fits both (if truthfully said) is, "It is well with me."  Such a response is not a feeling based on your circumstances.  As a Christian, such a statement could truly be said at a dead bed or funeral - if we fear God and walk in His ways.

Saying that "It is well with me" reflects more on our soul and spiritual condition.  All may be bleak and tumultuous on the outside, but our soul is resting on the bosom of our Savior.

Psalms 34:8 "O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him."
