"His Promise - Part 1" Daniel Valles
Scripture contains many small gems or immense value, which can often be overlooked. Encrusted at the top of a long list of genealogies, and almost subtitling the book of Matthew is a simple but profound statement. "The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham." The book that follows this introduction is about Jesus Christ. In many book stores today, we can find books about all sorts of individuals. Some are worth reading; others are not. The NT starts out with one statement that ties together the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament can be broken down to the history looking forward to this son of David and Abraham. The New Testament completes the history in the fulfilled prophecy. Another little gem is that this little statement qualifies Christ as fulfilling two of the greatest Old Testament prophecies. It acknowledges that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment not only of the promise to Abraham, but doubly so in that He is also the son of David! In Genesis 12:3, Abraham is promised that all families of the earth would be blessed by his seed. In II Samuel 7:12, David is promised that the kingdom will be established by his seed. Later in Psalm 89:3 and 132:11, God affirms that He made this promise to David. |
