"His Promise. Part 2"
Daniel Valles
READ
Matthew 1:1
When we read the New Testament, we need to realize that the entire New
Testament hinges on this verse and chapter. If Christ is not who He said
He was, then the entire New Testament can be discarded as man's writings.
God, however, qualified His statements, and gave us proofs so that we
could be sure of the New Testament's testimony. Not only has Christ
fulfilled the two greatest Old Testament prophecies, but He outlines the
exact geneology as evidence. It is interesting that in Scripture, the
Pharisees and religious leaders never debated His lineage.
When you read the New Testament, it may be good to quickly read Matthew
1:1 every now and then. Remind yourself that you are not reading just a
ecclesiastical history book. You are reading the autobiography of our
Creator, the record of His inffluence in lives, His desires for us, and
so much more!
In conclusion, turn over and read Matthew 28:20, the last verse of the
book. Jesus, speaking to His disciples, makes another great promise to
His children. Just like He promises Abraham and David that He would come
one day, now He is promising the disciples "I am with you alway, even
unto the end of the world." Jesus Christ keeps His promises - in that we
have hope. He starts out the New Testament reassuring us that He keeps
His promises to generations. The New Testament ends in Revelation with a
reassurance to us that He will keep His promises to us: "Surely I come
quickly". Just like Abraham and David rested in His promises, so we too
can rest and hope, while in this world, that Christ is coming back!
