"I Know - Part II"
Two chapters later, in 11:25-26, Jesus asked the same question of Martha. "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?" Before we look at her answer, isn't this the same thing that the blind man believed? Yes! He believed in Jesus that He was able to heal him! Martha's answer was, "Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world." (vs. 27) It is interesting that she knew more true doctrine than the blind man knew; but she did not act in faith on what she knew. She doubted that Jesus could raise Lazarus from the dead. Jesus even told her, "Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?" She knew the facts, but she didn't not believe He could do it. The blind man was fuzzy on all the doctrinal facts, but he believed Christ could do it. Christ wants to do amazing things in our life, if we put our trust in Him! When we know all the facts and doctrine, yet stick to our own logic, we rob ourselves of great blessings! Imagine if the blind man had heard Jesus Christ tell him to go wash at the pool of Siloam, but didn't go! He could have reasoned with himself that blind men cannot see, and no man can heal blindness! What about us? Knowing doctrine and the tenets of the faith are important; but, if we focus solely on them without believing in Christ, what profit does it bring us? Christ was us to trust Him, and to obey Him. After we do the first things, Christ will enlighten us further, just like He instructed and taught the blind man. "Doest thou believe on the Son of God?" - John 9:35
