"I Know - Part I"
In this chapter, God presents a fascinating account of an individual who came to Christ. He was healed not only of his blindness, but also from his sins. It is always a joy to meet new believers. Their eagerness and excitement to tell others about what they had found can be contagious and encouraging. This man, when he went about explaining what happened, did not launch into some doctrinally deep diatribe. His testimony about what happened was exactly that - what happened. When his neighbors realized that he was the man who was once blind, they asked him what happened. In one short verse, he explains how he heard what Jesus said, believed it to be true and acted on it. After he went to the pool of Siloam, and acted on what Jesus told him, he was healed. People today get saved the same way. Jesus Christ tells the world that He is the only way, sinner believe and receive, and they are gloriously saved. It is amazing to see the stand that this new believer takes in regard to Christ. When the Pharisees attempted to confuse him about what happened and that Christ was a sinner, he stated, "whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see." (vs. 25) Sometimes cults and religions make false statements about God and Christ in an attempt to confuse the lost or new believers. This man did not know a lot about Christ; but he knew that He had changed his life! He was quickly persecuted and shunned by the religious crowd, but his story never changed. Later, Jesus found him again and asked him, "Dost thou believe on the Son of God?" (vs. 35). His response to Jesus saying that He was the Son of God was, "Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him." He eventually had more doctrine clarified for him, namely, that Jesus and the Son of God are the same. His belief in Jesus was not altered by the lack of connecting the dots and doctrine before. Now that he knew, his worship of Jesus Christ was greater, though!
