"The Light"
Jesus told His disciples in John 9:5, "As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." Jesus made this statement to His disciples shortly before His crucifixion. Later, it would be shown that the torch was passed to us. Philippians 2:15 says, "That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world." While Christ was here on earth, activities, miracles, people, etc. all pointed to Christ. They were drawn to His light, or repulsed by it. John the Baptists' job was to point out that Light, and prepare the way for His coming. The disciples job, while He was here, was to learn from Him, and to bring others to Him. Christ pointed out a crucial principle that affects us everyday of our lives in John 11:9-10. He states, "I any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world." Relating that in principle, when we as Christians keep our eyes on Christ, the Light of the world, we can have clear direction as we walk through life. It is when we take our eyes off of Christ, and start trying to use our own wisdom without Him, that we stumble. Keep in the Word. His Word is a light unto our path. The more we walk without the light, the more we will stumble and slip. Do not rely on others to shine ambient light into your life's path. Get it straight from the source. Christ - the light of the world.
