"Vain Thoughts"
Have you even let your mind travel down the what-if lane? I have I am not talking about worrying, per se, but do you ask yourself questions? Many times (especially after reading and analyzing current events) when I read God's Word, and fellowship with Him, I sometimes ask myself the question: If I ever lost everything I own, went through extreme hardships, wandered around homeless, etc., what would be the one item that I would want? ...An item that I would place in my pockets before even food? Of course, it should be God's Word. Many times, I try to conceive what my life and actions would be if I did not even own or have access to God's Holy Word. You hear stories of people smuggling Bibles to distant lands, and how people wept when they received even a Gospel of John or the NT. Psalm 119:103 sums this desire as David cries, "How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" Are you spiritually hungry? When your spirit gets the hunger pangs, what do you fill it with? My heart breaks when I regularly met Christians who daily gorge themselves on TV and entertainment. Admittedly, I am not an angel, but I earnestly strive not to lose my appetite, or fill up on 'junk food'. David made a decision. Was he going to pursue after God and what He wanted, or was he going to fill his life with vain thoughts? "I hate vain thoughts; but thy law do I love." |
