"5 Promises"
In this one verse, God communicates five promises to Israel. Five! In one verse! Even though this particular address was given to Israel, these promises can also apply to His children - Christians. What does He promise? He promises to always be with us. I am reminded of my favorite verse, Psalm 94:17, which says, "Unless the Lord had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence." He also promises that He is our God, and we can take hope in that. Along with that is the fact that He is for us! He is our Heavenly Father! In reading the whole chapter, and several chapters afterwards, you get a sense of His heart for His chosen. Thirdly, He assures that He will strengthen us. Our meager strength cannot get us through life. We need His strength and grace. Fourth, He will help us. Not only do we know Someone who is omnipotent and can help us, but we know that He wants to help us! He expands on that by fifthly promising that He will uphold us with the right hand of His righteousness. The power that comes from a omnipotent, thrice-Holy God is what can uphold us even in the darkest of hours. Five promises. And each of those promises is with a definitive verb. Two of the promises are affirmed with the word 'am'. Right now, at the present, these promises are in effect. Not in a few years, not at a certain time... Right now He is with us, and right now He is our God! The three other verses are affirmed with the word 'will'. Because He is with us, and because He is our God, He will do what He has promised. |
