THIS WEEK'S VERSE
----------------------------------------------------------
READ Titus 2:1-8

As humans, we have differences in age, gender, size, etc.  As Christians, we are all of one body, however, we have different responsibilities as well.  As we progress in age throughout life, our Christian responsibilities are added to.  This is a short study of the different responsibilities by gender and age.

Everyone.
"Speak thou the things which become sound doctrine." vs. 1
"...in all things showing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, sound speech, that cannot be condemned." vs. 7-8a.

Older Men
"be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience." vs. 2
(grave: to be venerated for character, honourable)
(temperate: curbing one’s desires and impulses vs. doing what feels good and not caring)
(charity: brotherly love vs. humanity's bitterness in old age)

Older Women
same as the older men - vs. 3a.
"in behaviour as becometh holiness [reverent toward holy men and things], not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things." (vs. 3b)
Matthew Henry best sums this verse by saying, ""Those whose actions and behaviour become holiness are thereby teachers of good things; and, besides this, they may and should also teach by doctrinal instruction at home, and in a private way."

Young Women
"teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands" vs. 4-5.  I find it interesting that it is a learned trait to love others.  Human nature has us love ourselves, whereas Godly love is toward others.  Young adults need to learn to be sober and grave instead of rash and impetuous.

Young Men
"Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded."
(sober minded: to be in one’s right mind, to put a moderate estimate upon one’s self, think of one’s self soberly, to curb one’s passions)

As we look over this list that the Bible provides for our benefit, where do we stand?  Are we slack in certain areas?  Sound doctrine?  Sober minded?  Loving?  Discreet?  Sound speech?  These are the characteristics that should describe you at the various stages of life.  The world portrays a different lifestyle opposite of what the Bible outlines for the different ages and genders.  Remember, Christ is watching our testimony more than anyone else.  Seek His favor first of all and in all.

MISCELLANEOUS THOUGHTS I'VE FOUND
---------------------------------------------------------

"Everyone says to just take it easy and go with the flow. Well, what way does water flow?
Downhill!   If you are going with the flow you are not reaching higher. You must be active to be striving to be higher, not passive."

"If you do not go far from the world, you will not go far with God."

CURRENT EVENT RECAP
------------------------------------------------------
In last week's RECAP (7/11/4), I warned about China's relations with the US.  This week, it appears that they are completing new attack submarines.  Even as China is getting ready for a simulated attack on Taiwan, they are building these as "its first-line warships now, their best shot at beating carriers."  China already has 57 deployed subs, about as many as we do (published reports).
I thought it interesting that the article in the Washington Post said, "the Chinese submarine buildup should prompt the Pentagon to step up U.S. anti-submarine warfare capabilities, which he said are "at an historic low" because of cutbacks in specialized ships and aircraft."
There should also be a note that our submarine tactics have changed since the Cold War, we are training and equipping now for regional wars.  Combine that with cutbacks and already stretched forces, and it should be very clear that we have an enemy placating us with trade until they are ready to pull the rug, and that we have some serious re-evaluation to do of our current field commitments.

As part of their simulated attack, China will be demonstrating that they can maintain air superiority during the conflict, which is "an essential element in any invasion of the island."  It makes you wonder how they intend to maintain air superiority if it is understood that our carriers in the Pacific would head that direction.

Another dangerous front that is connected is that we are right now moving major forces out of South Korea to help cope with the overstretching.  We are moving out "hundreds of Abrams tanks, Bradley fighting vehicles, Humvees and artillery pieces".  My point of concern revolves around the apparent show of force that may be necessary to keep in the region to prevent North Korea and/or China from engaging in conflicts with their neighbors, especially since China is now warning us not to sell arms to Taiwan.  The element that they are using is of particular note because they mentioned that to continue to sell arms would hurt US/China bilateral relations.  Hmmm...

The research announced by agapepress.org regarding the aftermath of the Passion movie was not surprising to us here.  Part of the report stated, "One of the most disappointing things the research revealed was the apparent lack of a direct evangelistic impact by the film.  Less than one-tenth of one percent of the people who saw The Passion said they responded to it by making a profession of faith or accepting Christ as their Savior."  Let me get this straight, because of a serious lack of discernment in the churches, they have endorsed a movie by which a large chunk of the millions in profits will go to the Catholic Church, and the only 'kickback' for 'evangelical' Christians is less than 1/10 of 1%!!!  I can guarantee you the percentage of people who had a renewed interest in Catholicism was much larger than 1/10 of 1%!

On the same-sex front, a Yukon judge has now legalized same-sex 'marriages', with the territorial government saying they won't fight it.  A New York judge has dropped the charges against 'ministers' who 'married' same-sex couples.  The debate in Australia regarding same-sex 'marriage' is starting to heat up, with the topic losing its edge in America.  A growing number are starting to complain that with being so close to elections, Congress has better things to argue about than same-sex marriage.  Rosie O'Donnell and her gay cruise trip with hundreds of Sodomites and their 'families' are receiving very little rebuke, instead they are flaunting their rebellious lifestyle before God.  Fortunately, for them and us, our God is a God of Mercy who is willing to forgive them if they repent.

Two times this week, attentive Christians got a rare view of the President and Vice-President on their personal views of homosexuals.  Bush said, "What they do in the privacy of their house, consenting adults should be able to do" (Kutztown, Pa., boston.com - according to a White House transcript).  If that wasn't enough, Cheney's daughter, Mary, is gay, and Mrs. Cheney recently stated, "First of all, people should be free to enter into their relationships that they choose."  (theaustralian.news.com.au, CNN)  I know these statements are not surprising to some, but they candidly show the heart of these people.  For all the talk about how the President is Christian and takes a stand for marriage, etc., it amazing me that his actions and personal testimony speak more against him than anything he says in a public, televised speech.  He, admittedly, takes a stand for marriage; but in light of his personal beliefs, his 'stands' are more legal than moral.   "They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate."  (reprobate: 'that which does not prove itself such as it ought')  Titus 1:16

In the international front, it is alarming that one of the first cases the International World Court ruled on was a case that clearly intervened into areas it should not have.  Attempting to mediate and decide regarding the Israel barrier clearly interfered in an internal matter, even bringing public rebuke for overstepping its bounds.  If the IWC is already getting its feet wet in intervening in other country's internal affairs, how long will it be till they turn their vulturous gaze toward US affairs?

REMINDERS & PRAYER REQUESTS
----------------------------------------
"I LOVE the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live."  Psalm 116:1-2
This week the Lord abundantly blessed and answered a prayer requests that was on my heart for several weeks.  His fingerprints were all over it, as I say, meaning that His hand was evident throughout it all.  Praise be to the Lord, who hears our voice and supplications.

Do not live for this world - seek Christ first and highest of all.
