Why Christians should be concerned about current events

Thoughts on the NY Blackout

While this essay may seem a bit "far-right" and extreme, it is not without Biblical precedent.  As Christians, we are called to be prudent, not simple.

This is not intended to be a thorough treatise on the subject, but merely an essay to spark your thinking on areas that maybe we overlooked or neglected.  There are many more points that could be added to these lists, but there are resources on the web more specific to that.

Why Should I Prepare?
Daniel Valles

DOES THE BIBLE SAY ANYTHING ON PREPARDNESS?

bullet 1 Timothy 6:8 "And having food and raiment let us be therewith content."
bullet 1 Timothy 5:8 "But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel."
bullet Genesis 41:35-36  "And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.  And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine."
bullet Proverbs 13:23 "Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment."
bullet Proverbs 14:15 "The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going."
bullet Proverbs 22:3 "A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished."
bullet Proverbs 27:12 "A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished."

WHAT WOULD WE NEED TO PREPARE FOR?

bullet Natural disaster (flood, earthquake, wildfire, tornado, blizzard, etc.)
bullet Utility Outages (blackouts, water contamination, etc.)
bullet Terror attack, Red Alert, and martial law.
bullet Civil Unrest (racial, economic, anarchy, etc.)
bullet Economic collapse.
bullet Foreign invasion

THOUGHTS TO PONDER

bullet Our infrastructure (food distribution, etc.) relies heavily on Just-In-Time (JIT) delivery.  Disruption cause higher prices, scarcity, etc.
bullet The dollar/economy is declining.
bullet Most people wouldn't know what to do/or are prepared for long-term electrical loss.
bullet Hospitals/clinic would be overcrowded in time of (natural) disaster with the most injuries requiring basic first aid or bandages.
bullet Money in the bank/ATM won't do you much good if the power goes out.  Thing food, medical, water, etc. also.  Gas pumps need power, too.
bullet Most people are not prepared for water loss or contamination.  Also sanitary goes with this.
bullet Food/medicine reserves are better than money reserves, as you won't be paying higher prices, fighting, crowds, dealing with scarcity, etc.
bullet Are/will others be dependent on you?
bullet Preparation allows you to stay with your family and deal with security instead of running out in a possible hazardous situation to get supplies you should have had.

PREPAREDNESS QUESTIONS

bullet What events are you planning for?
bullet How long to you want to be prepared for (i.e.. self-sufficient)?
bullet How many family members/people are you expecting to be responsible for?
bullet How will you handle sanitation?
bullet How will you prepare/cook food?  Canned goods?
bullet How much food/water do you have in your house right now?
bullet Have water (or access to) for washing/cleansing?
bullet Can you decontaminate/clean water?
bullet How will you provide heat?  Ability/place to have a fire?
bullet How will you provide security (even when asleep)?  Ammunition?
bullet Do you know first-aid and have an extensive first-aid/medical kit?
bullet Prescription medicines?
bullet Spare batteries/flashlights? Light source?
bullet Communication?  Walkie-talkies?
bullet Make repairs?

IF YOU NEED TO LEAVE YOUR AREA...

bullet Where will you go?  Shelter?
bullet How will you move supplies?
