Thoughts on
the Marriage Amendment

As I write this
article, the courts are battling the matter of same-sex marriages in
San Francisco and making a Constitutional amendment defining marriage
as between a man and a woman. Should marriage be between a man
and a woman? No doubt whatsoever.
Will a Constitutional Marriage Amendment...
...stem the growing tide of divorce in
America? No
...protect children from these
perverted homosexual lifestyles? No
...make same-sex marriage or even
lifestyle immoral in the eyes of the American/world people? No
...give credence to heterosexual
marriage as moral and God-ordained as opposed to government-ordained?
No
...prevent even more
homosexual lifestyles being taught in our school?
No
...prevent homosexual
bars/cafes springing up in our neighborhoods?
No
...prevent homosexual
couples from living in your area, influencing your/other children?
No
...be exempt from being amended or
removed by the next administration? No
...prevent homosexual parades in your
city? No
...prevent homosexual
couples from flaunting in front of your family at amusement park
events? No
...prevent a growing
increase in homosexual TV shows, activities, and jokes from affecting
your family? No
Will a Constitutional Marriage Amendment...
...allow homosexual activity and support to fester
with less oversight by Christians? Yes
...will it act as a placebo to get Christians to
think they've "done their part"? Yes
...will Christians think we are more of a 'Christian
nation', even though no attempt was made to actually reverse/address
homosexuality? Yes
...will it lull Christians to be less active against
the moral corruption of homosexuality than they currently are?
Yes
...will Christians start looking more to government
to solve moral issues that ultimately stem from spiritual issues?
Yes
...will this contribute to a larger "having a form
of godliness, but denying the power thereof" 2 Timothy 3:5? Yes
Well, what do I
suggest?
First, of all, my point with this essay to to get your eyes and
dependence off of this legislation as a cure-all. If anything,
it will make the homosexuals look like victims, and win more sympathy
for their cause, while installing a veneer of bigotry over the whole
of Christianity, conservatives, and heterosexuals.
I have yet to hear our President or the
governors of the states involved actually decrying the sins of Sodom,
calling on our nation to repent, and to actually attempt to clean up
the filth - (notice I did not say sweep it under the carpet).
All of the godly kings in the Old Testament that worked a revival for
God did not pussyfoot around the issue worrying about damaging their
image among their most powerful lobby groups or constituents, or even
worry about the repercussions! The Bible commands us to eschew
and abhor evil! For a deeper look at what God requires, please
read "The Great Commandment: How do we
love God?"
Secondly, instead of putting all of
your hopes in this legal basket, create or get involved in a ministry
that reaches out to homosexuals. That's right. Show them,
with a sincere concern, that Christ not only created us, but He saves
us. Christ came to die for homosexuals, too. Stand up, be
salt and light. You do not need to bash. Christians should
not bash a person. Show them sincere concern for their soul.
This does not mean you bring yourself down to their moral level to
reach them; but you can reach them while remaining distinct and
sanctified.
Also, in your marriage, live the godly
example and testimony that you should. Make them jealous.
Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25,
Colossians 3:19); and wives love your husbands as the church loves
Christ (Ephesians 5:23, Titus 2:4).
Resources for the
Christian/Ministry to use in witnessing to homosexuals
- without 'bashing'.
Romans 1:27-28
"And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman,
burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that
which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of
their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain
God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do
those things which are not convenient."
Jude 1:7
"Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner,
giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh,
are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal
fire."
