Are You Ready For Things To Get Worse?
Daniel Valles  7/6/4

In the news we constantly see signs of moral collapse and apostasy - in this world and in the church. We are truly in the times of the Laodician church. Lukewarm to where it wants to hold hand and endorse both sides - the world and God. Such compromise, however, is one-sided. God has said that He hates such a position so much that it sickens Him. As Christians, we can either embrace the world or eschew the world. Too many Christians are caught in the headlights of this world, and are fixated on it. They cannot see the eternal heaven to where they are headed, or view the road that they should be traveling in life.

As part of that perspective comes the viewpoint that this world, in its relative comforts, can be sustained in a bearable state as long as laws are put into effect, and that even gross moral misconduct by a nation in flagrant disregard to God can be bandaged with resolutions and bans on sin. God has clearly stated in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." He did not say if my people try to hid the public sin that is infested throughout their land by banning legal recognition of it then He will heal the land. No. Are such laws necessary? To a degree.

As Christian we still need to make every effort to hinder the spread and influence of public and private sin. However, we must constantly remember that it is a temporary panacea that will only hold so long. Do not expect any laws banning sin to heal the land. If you put a bandage over gangrene, it will hide it for a while, but the infection will just grow stronger.

In Matthew 24:12, Jesus says that "because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." The word 'abound' literally means to be multiplied. As we look at the news, every month we seem to see double of the iniquity in the past month. Christ told us it will get so bad that agape/charity love will wax cold. Already in America we see increasingly that the idol in most Christian's life is not so much the TV or sports, but themselves! What do I believe. What do I want to do in life? What is my opinion of right and wrong? What about me, me, me.

I really hate to sound like a square and stick-in-the-mud, but the way things are going and multiplying now, do you really expect to make it to retirement and enjoy life? No! If you are laying aside treasures so that you can putt golf around on the green all day or go fishing, you are in for a rude awakening. Yes, those activities are fun and can be relaxing, but can you say that you are living as though Christ were coming back?

The signs are abounding around us that pretty soon America, one of the last bastions of religious freedom, will succumb to the tolerate sin that it festers. We are already at the point where the vocal majority for iniquity is shouting down the 'moral majority'. Why? Because we expect legislation to make them get their life right. How long do you think it will be till the vocal majority for iniquity can easily legislate the laws of their choice to make us conform to them?

The point of this essay is to make you think. Iniquity in undeniably abounding every day. It will not peak and then reverse. Christ said in the same chapter that it will be as the days of Noah and Lot. Are you expecting and living as though trials and persecutions are in the possible future, or are you thinking of wasting your life on the green?
