The purpose of informedchristians.com
 |
Not just a news site
While this site contains many news articles not widely
circulated, news of Christians interest, global news, etc., this
site is not intended to be a news site. The news articles
are picked for a purpose. That purpose is to make one
examine the world and their priorities. Christ warned us
that "the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches,
and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it
becometh unfruitful." (Mark 4:19)
He also implored us that we should "love not the world, neither
the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the
love of the Father is not in him" (I John
2:15). Too many people are wrapped up in this world,
careers, sports, celebrities, fashion, money, leisure, amusement,
movies, games, TV, trinkets, gossip, sex, pleasure, useless things
and pursuits. Our eyes have become full with what this world
would offer.
Christ says that we should look up. "And have tasted the
good word of God, and the powers of the world to come"
(Hebrews 6:5). Our efforts, energy, and pursuits should be
eternally-minded. Are we so caught up in being comfortable
in this world that we forget we are just waiting here?
As part of that, too many Christians have become apathetic to sin.
It is laughed at, viewed as entertainment, happily ignored, or
even excused. What happened to Christians having "tasted
the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come"
(Hebrews 6:5)? Luke 21:34-36 also
reminds us that we can get so enthralled with this world that God
uses the words "overcharged" and "drunkeness" to
describe our life. Jesus, himself, reminded people that they
were not focusing on the weightier matters - judgment, mercy, and
faith! (Matthew 23:23) Our
churches have stopped preaching judgment for fear of 'offending
someone'. Well, they offended God.
Proverbs 8:13 is the crux of the Christian attitude and life.
"Fear of the Lord is to hate evil." Psalm 97:10
& Proverbs 8:13 also reiterate that love for
God involves hating evil. It is not enough to just get
'busy' for God in your church or ministry - anyone can do that.
What should set us apart is a changed life - inside. Do we
hate evil or do we tolerate it? Can we say that we fear God
- and yet entertain movies, games, books, culture, or music that
glorifies or promotes evil or the evil way - with its direction,
manner, habit, moral character, or course of life?
Hopefully this site can show you a small mirror of this world and
how we should live not for the present, but for the future.
