Dear Christian,

How many times do people in your church, place of work, or community look to you for advice?  Whether it is on politics, religion, morality, or current events, sometimes you cannot spend hours researching and investigating trends and events that might impact you and your friends.  

In John 7:24, Christ tells us that we are to “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”  It takes just a little effort to make anything look good and innocent.  People, leaders, books, movies, music, etc. can all be ‘Christianized’ with the right makeup and words.  Christians are to judge (discernment) based on actions, wise decisions, and doing what is Biblically correct.

Oftentimes we can lend support or credibility to people, media, books, or even organizations without thinking about whether we should or not.  Too many ‘Christian’ organizations have been ‘leavened’ by compromise, psychology, lack of discernment, and embracing un-Biblical viewpoints.

On the other hand, Satan knows how easy it is to bog Christians down with news and debate that does not matter.  Too many people stand around and get deeply involved in news stories, opinions, and activities that bear no relevance to them, and distract them from being used by God.  Along with a lack of discernment in affairs on this earth, the same individuals can be ill informed in matters of Biblical discernment.  Many rely solely on the pastors or leaders, instead of getting into God’s Word for themselves and their families.
