It Could Never Happen In America

"Why not?", I ask. I am referring to the mass slaughter of
one social group at the hands of another social group (usually the
majority) within a society. Some prominent examples in history
could be the Nazis vs. the Jews and undesirables; the communists of
Stalin vs. the Russian people; the Communists of Mao vs. the people
of China; the socialists of Pol Pot vs. the people of Cambodia;
lastly the Fascist of Mussolini vs. the Italian peoples.
People tell me all the time that these types of atrocities could
never happen in America. They repeat it over and over like it
is a talisman of protection, but in truth they just don't have an
answer to the question.
The rough ball park figures for the examples given above total
approximately 200 million people, murdered by their governments -
governments they trusted, governments that were supposed to protect
them. Late at it again, 200 million, that's million with an
"m", folks.
I want to answer my own question. I think it could never
happen here in America, because this is a moral nation. Hey,
stop laughing, I'm serious. We, in America, don't suffer from
corruption, apathy, lying, hedonism, gambling, alcoholism, etc. and
"we" in America honor God or Allah or Jehovah or Mary, Mohammed,
Cosmic entities, etc., etc. We are not one of those "pagan"
nations.
Do I hear a collective and politically correct "yeah right" O.K.
perhaps "moral" is too strong a word, but we are a good and
patriotic people. Yes! that is why it could never happen
here - "we" are patriotic.
We have nothing at all in common with those flag waving,
cliché-chanting nationalists of 1939 Germany. Nothing in
common with their blind faith in a supreme leader who claims to be
doing the will of God. Nothing in common with a people who put
their trust in a political system to save them from all woe.
Nothing in common whatsoever.
Here in America "our" flag waving is different... and our
cliché's are... well, more appropriate, yeah, that's it! We
don't place our faith in one man to fight all injustice or a
political system to secure our security! (Oh, wait a minute, I guess
we do, oops!) So remind me again, how are we different from
1939 Germany? Oh, that's right, the Constitution.
It could never happen in America because we are a nation of Laws.
The Constitution! The Bill of Rights! Don't they speak
boldly about the limits of Government. I don't know, see
we never got taught that in school, I mean... how important could
some 200-year-old document really be, especially since no one in our
nation's capital could care about what it says. I guess the
best laws in the world are no good unless you got something to back
them up with.
Which, brings us to our last point in this freedom perspective
exercise. (Buckle your seatbelts 'cause this is going to floor
you) It could never happen in America because... (pause for
effect)... (oh, the suspense)... WE ARE A NATION OF GUN OWNERS.
130 million gun owners at last head count. You see, folks, our
founding fathers were a lot smarter than we give them credit for.
They knew long before Hitler and Stalin came along that a people
disarmed is a people easily enslaved, and all this time you thought
the 2nd amendment was for hunting. Wake up and smell the gun
powder, folks! Your second amendment is so you can keep your
family from being hauled of to the gulags in cattle cars! (can I get
an amen!)
So the next time you see a worthless, spineless, socialist (R or
D) claiming to care about your children and needs you to turn in
your guns to keep little Suzie or Johnny safe... for the good
of the Homeland and security of the people. (again 1939 Germany
rings a bell), write down their name and call their office letting
them know that if they vote or support such sick legislation,
they've lost your vote, and the vote of anyone else you can tell.
