Reader Response:
Subliminal messages in 'The
Passion'?

I have a question. It may be far fetched, but I am so perplexed. How
it is that 98% (seems like) of whom I have highly esteemed as great
Spiritual Leaders nationwide and in my own community, have embraced
this movie without a blink of an eye or a question of it's
inaccuracies. I know there were several "private showings", or
"previews" open to our leaders and pastors....I know everyone of
them went to one. Is it possible that, at the "private viewing",
they were hypnotized and told how to respond to the movie?
Subliminal messages? I have never seen my Pastor give in to
something that was not 100% biblically accurate! He's a staunch
believer in the Bible as the infallible word of God, nothing can be
added or taken away, not a jot, lest you be cursed........ So I am
seriously concerned of what happened.
Can you shed some light on this being a possibility?

I must say that you pose an interesting question!
As I study the 'Passion' phenomenon more and more, I have been
perplexed by the undiscerning acceptance of this movie and its
message.
I doubt that there may be subliminal messages, but I cannot state
definitely.
I would have to say that it appears as a peer-pressure mentality:
- You have 'select' leaders and pastors being shown a movie that
is touted as Christian, accurate, sincere, and free from Catholic
influence.
- As one of these few 'privileged', it is implied that you would
be one of the few who should truly recognize this movie as being
'from God'.
- As you watch the movie, get caught up in the specialness and
excitement, with some showings even having Mel attend - any warning
flags, while noted, would tend not to be mentioned, as surely you
would be brow-beaten by the other 'Christian' leaders as being
nit-picky.
- Also, since various denominations are present, each with their
'flavor' of doctrine, mentioning the points would merely be cause
for endless arguments.
- As you leave, since you did not mention the gross discrepancies
(since you were invited, after all), you focus on what everyone got
from it.
- Also, with the large emotional impact, you interpret that as a
'spiritual experience', and so it must be good - after all, that's
what your Charismatic 'brother' who also attended said. You bawled
your eyes out, wrenched your gut, and felt weak for hours - it must
be 'spiritual'.
- Weighing your conscience's regard to doctrine versus your
supposed 'spiritual experience', you decide the latter is a
profitable ends regardless of the means.
- You come back and tell everyone how you had a great spiritual
awakening as a result of watching this movie.
- When someone is bold enough to mention the gross errors, you
smile (remembering your 'spiritual experience'), and tell them they
are nit-picky.
Also, a degree of the deception is achieving in that I believe it is
also a spiritual experience - but not Christian. Watching any movie
that has undeniable subtle references to Antichrist, as well as
reinforcing every main blasphemous tenet of Catholicism (especially in
a movie 'venerating' Christ) - and enjoying it unreservedly (in my
opinion) will open even a Christian to demonic oppression and
deception.
1 Chronicles 21:1 "And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked
David to number Israel."
Luke 22:31 "And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath
desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:"
Ephesians 4:14 "That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to
and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight
of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive"
2 Thessalonians 2:3 "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that
day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that
man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition"
Acts 13:10 "And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou
child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not
cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?"
Ephesians 4:27 "Neither give place to the devil."
Ephesians 6:11 "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able
to stand against the wiles of the devil."
2 Corinthians 2:11 "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for
we are not ignorant of his devices."
2 Corinthians 11:14 "And no marvel; for Satan himself is
transformed into an angel of light."
